Hi, it's DT Amanda here. I am here to show you how i made the MDF Suitcase from our Current Challenge.
So here's what it looks like before it's all painted.
It does come flat packed but it is Super Easy to glue together.
Next i sealed all the MDF with Multi Surface Primer so it doesn't absorb the glue & paint.
Now for the bit i absolutely LOVE doing! Rip pieces of crinkly tissue paper into strips & apply Multi Surface Primer or PVA glue to one side & stick that to the MDF & while still wet start to scrunch the tissue paper into creases and folds. Then apply the multi surface primer over the top & continue until all of the suitcase is covered but avoiding the corners & straps.
This does take a while to complete but it is very relaxing & so much fun!
Here's what it looks like at this stage.
Next i painted all of the Suitcase with Navy Acrylic Paint.
Once dry i dry brushed all of it with a slightly lighter blue trying to just catch all the crinkled parts so they start to stand out from the background.
Next dry brush very lightly with White Acrylic Paint so it really highlights those creases & folds in the tissue paper.
I have included this next photo as you can really see the creases & folds.
The Suitcase straps & corners i added some dry brushing in Gold Lime Shimmer Paint by Cosmic Shimmer (this is so Lush).
Next i used a wooden postage stamp frame from Do Crafts Christmas Basics.
Painted it with Black Acrylic Paint & once dry i dry brushed with the Gold Lime Shimmer Paint. I glued a piece of Travel paper to the back of the frame once i had aged it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Faded Jeans & Brushed Corduroy.
The small wood suitcase was dabbed with Ranger Emboss It Dauber & sprinkled with Cosmic Shimmer UTE Crystals in Vintage Metal & heated till it melts. While still hot & sticky i sprinkled on Vintage Silver Cosmic Shimmer UTE Crystals. The Paris was an old embellishment i found in my stash.
I made 2 Luggage Tags from Chipboard which i covered with design paper & aged with the same Tim Holtz ink pads as above. Next i stamped with a mixture of Tim Holtz & Graphic 45 stamps.
The word "Fly" is part of a Stencil made by That Craft Place.
Here it is all finished!
I used some silver metal washers on the straps.
You can also see the Gold Lime shimmer paint on the corners & straps.
Here's a side view as you can see the crinkles & folds of tissue paper in this photo.
I included this photo so you can see it really does store a lot of stuff in it.
These are all my glues so now they are all in one place on my craft table.
All products used are available from That Craft Place.
